The small town of Tenancingo, Mexico, 100 Km southwest of Mexico City, is a known hub for sex trafficking where women and girls are smuggled into the United States – often to New York City – and forced into violent sexual servitude.
Pimp culture is embedded in the fabric of society. A study done by Autonomous University of Tlaxcala found that 16% of school boys in Tenancingo wanted to become pimps when they grew up, and 44% said at least one of their friends did. Another study said there are 1,000 traffickers out of a population of 10,000.
